Hilary is a purpose-driven executive and thought-leader. A tested builder of organizations, she has dedicated her career to facilitating powerful citizen engagement. Currently, Hilary is the Chief Growth Officer for the State of Michigan and works alongside the Growing Michigan Together Council on a once-in-a-generation effort to grow Michigan’s population, boost economic growth, and make Michigan the place everyone wants to call home.
In her previous role, Hilary was President of NationBuilder, the world’s most-used software company for advocacy & engagement, with customers in over 100+ countries worldwide. She was also responsible for the company's growth strategy, as an expert in the strategies that make leaders and movements effective in this era.
Hilary is also the Founder of Scout —a Detroit-based policy organization focused on designing ideas that build shared prosperity.
Prior to joining NationBuilder, Hilary served as a senior leader at the Roosevelt Institute andNational Director of the Roosevelt Institute | Network, where she helped grow the think tankto be the nation’s largest policy organization. Hilary has received national recognition and coverage for her work from the Washington Post, The Nation and NPR, among others.
As a native Michigander, Hilary proudly earned her B.A. and M.P.P. from the University of Michigan, and later studied political behavior as a doctoral student in the Department of Politics at Princeton University, before leaving to explore those themes via civic tech.
After nearly a decade in New York, Hilary and her family now once again reside in the greatest state of all, as proud residents of Detroit, MI.
